Technology & Information Services

Director of Technology & Information Services: Jerome A. Brown Jr, Ed.D.

The Jim Thorpe Area School District Technology & Information Services Department provides technology support to students and staff. It is led the the Director of Technology & Information Services, and consists of three building computer technicians who provide hardware & software support for students and staff. The department managed over 2000 computers (iMacs & MacBook Air laptops), iPads, and Windows-based computers as a part of its Project OLE 1:1 computing initiative.

In addition, the department manages the district's wired and wireless networks, including all routers, switches, and access points. Other technology hardware that is managed by the department includes printers, copiers, security cameras, smart boards, projectors, Apple TVs, and the STEAM equipment, which includes the robotics and 3D printers.

All classrooms and meeting spaces are equipped with either a smart board or a large-screen TV, connected to an Apple TV, for wireless Airplay projection.

The department manages the Google Workspace for the district, which includes email and the Google apps, and the online learning platforms of Seesaw, Google Classroom, and Schoology.

The department also manages the district's IP telephone system, that was installed in 2021, that was fully paid for through a state security grant.

The department maintains a strong focus on educational technology integration, and works with the teachers and support staff in the integration the various technology platforms into their classroom. The district coordinates much of the professional development concerning technology, and does in-house trainings as well. The department manages the myriad educational platforms available to the staff and students, and works to make sure that the services are used efficiently, appropriately, and works to avoid duplication of services. The department works to provide a financially sustainable budget, and continues to look of ways to cut costs while increasing efficiencies. Th e department files annually for eRate funding, which can provide discounts up to 70% for allowable technology services and hardware.

The department also manages the district's administrative platforms, including the PowerSchool SIS and related modules, the Apptegy website and alert system, and the Frontline Central and its related modules, to name a few. The department also is responsible for all state reporting through PIMS and federal reporting through CRDC. The department is responsible for implementing and adhering to all federal and state regulations regarding filtering and student online privacy through COPPA.
